Marion

7/26/2010

Indianapolis Indiana the racing capital of the world would be hosting the Midwest TQ's at the Marion county fair grounds for the first time on July 26 2010 and the Willis racing team was there. The weather was very pleasant with the humidity finally giving everyone a break. The track is a flat track with long sweeping corners and short straits. Everyone would be trying to find the right setup as it is like no other track the Midwest TQ's run. Hot laps would tell a lot about the track and after the hot lap session the Willis team went to work on the car. The work paid off for qualifying. With a lap of 14.395 Jason set fast time for the first time this year and set the track record for the new track. With fast time comes one of the coolest things which is carrying the flag during the national anthem. Which was sung by Willis team member Jeannie Willis. This also put the Willis team in the Jackson oil duel for fuel. Having won the last three duels Jason would have it rough this time having to start last row outside on a slick race track. On the start Jason got up to third and after the first lap he was up to second but when the checkers fell second is where he would finish. Being the fast qualifier Jason got the privilege to pick the nights inversion. The worst he could draw was 12 the best was 8 and he drew 10 which would mean the Willis team would be starting 10th in the feature. The heat race would be next and the Willis team found themselves starting last. The track was getting slick and the passing was getting harder. Jason was able to move forward and finished second when the checkers fell. The track was getting slick and dusty and it was clear that the 10th place starting position was going to be hard to over come on a slick and dusty track. When the green flag flew on the feature event the cars didn't get through the first turn before the first caution of many would fly. The second double file starting attempt also saw cars spinning in the first turn and Jason was lucky to miss them as another caution flew. The decision to start single file allowed the cars to get the first lap in but cautions would be waving before too long. Jason with patience and luck was able to pass and move forward. Counting caution laps the cars run 96 laps before the shorted race was finished. Jason would finish fourth and with the way the track was the Willis team felt pretty good. " I didn't think it would be a endurance race I was getting scared of running out of fuel." says Jason Willis driver of the Willis racing team. Pole sitter Chris Guinn would pick up the feature win. Congratulations to Chris.
